Why go to Kurashiki

Kurashiki's canal district is one of the best-preserved merchant towns in Japan, home to the Ohara Museum of Art, Japan's first private museum centered on Western art. It is an easy day trip from Okayama, Osaka or Hiroshima.

Getting there

  • From Okayama: about 15 minutes on the JR San'yō Line to Kurashiki Station.
  • From Osaka (Shin-Osaka): about 45 minutes to 1 hour by Shinkansen to Okayama, then change trains.
  • From Kurashiki Station: the Bikan Historical Quarter is about a 10-minute walk.

Tips for avoiding the crowds

  • The canal is quietest in the morning before tour groups arrive.
  • The boat ride has limited seats per departure, so get tickets early in the day.
  • Weekdays are much calmer than weekends and holidays.

Little challenges to share with your group. Every Tabishiori itinerary has three.
